What do the different ratings mean in the Director Skills and Development assessment results?

For the Director Skills and Development assessment, GovernWith breaks its rating down into 6 separate categories which define a Director's governance capability

Developing Foundational

Directors rated "Developing Foundational" may have minimal understanding, experience and qualifications relevant to the measured topic. However, the assessment process has determined that opportunities exist for the Director to improve their knowledge for applying that understanding in the setting of the Boardroom.

Foundational

Directors rated as "Foundational" may have limited understanding experience and qualifications pertinent to the measured topic. They have a basic foundation knowledge of the topic and can apply their understanding, experience and qualifications in the setting of the Boardroom, however, opportunities exist to improve their understanding and therefore capabilities.

Developing Proficient

Directors rated "Developing Proficient" may have some understanding, experience and qualifications pertinent to the measured topic. They have the base knowledge to apply and can contribute to discussions in the Boardroom. Opportunities exist to improve their understanding and therefore capabilities around this topic.

Proficient

Directors rated "Proficient" have good understanding and often good experience and some qualifications pertinent to the measured topic. They have enough knowledge to apply their experience and qualifications and contribute effectively to discussions in the Boardroom. Opportunities still exist to improve their capabilities for this topic if they wish or need to become more expert.

Developing Advanced

Directors rated "Developing Advanced" have very good understanding, experience and qualifications pertinent to the measured topic. They have the knowledge to apply their experience and qualifications and contribute effectively to discussions in the Boardroom. Opportunities exist to continue to evolve their capabilities for this topic if they wish to become more expert. This is a level of capability to consider having a leadership role on the Board for this topic, for example as a Board Sub Committee Chair.

Advanced

Directors rated "Advanced" have significant understanding, experience and high-level qualifications pertinent to the measured topic. They have the knowledge to apply their experience and qualifications and contribute effectively and as an expert to discussions in the Boardroom. This is a good level of capability to have a leadership role on the Board for this topic, for example as a Board Sub Committee Chair.
